BTS have achieved what no other Asian artist has done before, taking the top spot on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with their album LOVE YOURSELF 轉 ‘Tear’.
In a tight competition against Post Malone‘s beerbongs & bentleys, which had been #1 for 3 weeks straight, BTS managed to take over 1st place thanks to their extremely high physical album sales.
Not only has BTS become the first K-Pop group to reach #1 on the Billboard 200, but they are also the first Asian artist in general to reach #1, AND the first foreign language artist since Il Divo achieved the feat in 2006.
The Billboard 200 ranks albums based on a combination of physical album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
10 digital track sales is equal to 1 album, and 1500 song streams is equal to 1 album. Data from online services such as Spotify, Beats Music, and Google Play all contribute to these numbers.
