The red version of G-Dragon’s “Coup d’Etat Part.2” album cover has landed on Complex Magazine’s 50 Best Pop Album Covers of the Past Five Years.

“Coup d’Etat” is the only album by a Korean artist to have earned a spot on the list, having placed in the 20th position.

Complex Magazine writer, Dale Eisinger described G-Dragon as “less of an anomaly and more of a visionary.” The album cover has a bright red background with a black symbol that can reasonably be interpreted as a modified peace sign, which Eisinger describes as “that East/West divide that emptying out the right side of this icon offers—the roundness, the oneness of the circle, is emphasized over the original symbol, giving a new global weight to the international smash-hit album’s visuals.”

The number 1 spot on the list went to Michael Jackson‘s “Michael” . The cover features a brilliant, multifaceted painting by renowned author, illustrator, and painter Kadir Nelson. Bjork’s “Biophilia” came in second and Vampire Weekend’s “Contra” came in third.
