In this special day for women all over the world, it’s very important to recall some movies that showed the importance and the strenght of Korean women. For this reason, we made a list of six Korea movies about strong female characters. Check it out:

1: Cart

Based on a true story, this movie made me cry from the beginning to the end. The story begins at a supermarket where most of the workers are women. They are living their lives and waiting for a promotion when the supermarket is sold to another company and they all might lose their jobs.

The change affects all the workers in different ways. Our main character, played by Yum Jung Ah, becomes the leader of the movement to get their rights back, and many of the workers join them, but some of them end up leaving due to family reasons. This movie is almost like a Korean version of ‘Sufragette’.

2. Factory Complex

This movie is also about a real story, and talks about the labor explotation of women who are fighting for their rights. Even nowadays, when the work conditions have improved so much, many female workers have to endure hardship and bad conditions.

3. Han Gong Ju

This movie tells the story of a 15 year old girl, Han Gong Ju, who was involved in a horrible accident and had to keep quiet about it. However, when she finally begins to move on with her life, her past comes back to haunt her. Touching in though subjects such as bullying and revenge, this movie shows the touching story of a teenager who has to become an adult.

4. Pascha

This is story is not as sad as the ones above, but has an amazing female chracter in it. ‘Pascha’ tells the story of a 40 year old writer who lies with her 18 year old boyfriend and their cats. She has to hide their relationship because of prejudice, and faces many harships in her loneliness.

5. Gabi

This movie tells the story of two star-crossed lovers in the Chuseok era. The couple receives the mission to assassinate King Gojong: while Tanya has to poison the king’s coffee (she’s an excellent barista), her lover becomes a spy to protect her. The ending is extremely awesome.

6. The Huntresses

To add a bit of humor to this list, we bring a comedy movie with three strong women: Jin Ok (Ha Ji Won), Hong Dan (Kang Ye Won) and Ga Bi (BEG’s Ga In) are a trio of bounty hunters who receive a difficult task. In my opinion, it’s like a historical version of ‘The Powerpuff Girls’.

What did you think of this list? Had you already watched any of the movies? Are you looking forward to watch any of them? What other movies would you have added? Let us know!
