47th Daejong Film Awards, one of Korea’s most prestigious event is held successfully on Oct 29, presented by Ministry of Culture and Information of South Korea.
However, there have been some discomfort seen since yesterday when apparently two of the global biggest Korean music bands were met with disappointing cold responses in their congratulatory stage performances from the audience.
SNSD/Girl’s Generation and 2PM are specially invited to perform for this two-hour awards ceremony, with the girls performing ‘‘Oh!” and ‘‘Hoot” and the boys ‘‘Only you” and ‘‘I’ll be back”. From the video, one can see the boys receiving a little more livelier response from the audience especially with the giving of roses.
However during the girls’ performance, there is absolutely motionless expression from the audience with some looking on, eyes wide open in amazement.
This has caused two Kpop singers to leave strong and unpleasant remarks against the unmoving audience.
SG Wannabe’s Lee Seok Hoon left a Twitter message, saying“Was it that hard to clap?! Was it that hard to smile?! How could your bodies have stayed still when music was playing?! This is too much!!”
Similarly, PSY has also spoke up regarding this by posting in his Me2day, saying “The awards show today must’ve been really godly and luxurious, hmm? I was too busy singing and wasn’t able to watch it, but it seems like the general sentiment after reading here and there…. They should’ve invited a guy like me so I can trespass into the audience… ^^ You know, people sit down to watch good shows and stand up to watch bad shows.”
There are many netizens who shared the same sentiments, saying,
”the audience see SNSD or serious movie?? they look stress!!??”
”the audience seems no reaction about what they are watching….they don’t understand how lucky they are to watch SNSD performing….”
and with some others think otherwise,
“OST singers should’ve been invited instead.”
“This was not a place for idol singers. They were out of place and out of their league.”
On a personal note, I do hope that the actors and singers must know that in a show and music entertainment industries, they are very much closely intertwined together and especially with more singers crossing over to acting. Let not it be a battle between actors and singers but with mutual respect to continue spreading the Korean wave worldwide.
