So Ji Sub breaks free of all expectations with his new music video “18 Years” feat. Saetbyul!  It isn’t always a good thing when actors forge in to the music industry, but in this case it beyond a good thing for So Ji Sub.

Watch the video here!

The song is stellar, dark and broody but still having the kind of beat that makes you want to bob your head and blast it in your car.  The addition of Saetbyul’s voice is the perfect counterpoint to So Ji Sub’s deep gravelly rapping, light but emotional, strong but not overpowering.  It’s an ideal combination.

The video itself is perfect, telling the story of someone who is not in charge of their own image, not in charge of what is done with their body, not in charge of their image.  He’s chained and unconscious while owner-less hands dress him, change his appearance and go so far as to change his facial expression.  It isn’t until the end that he breaks free, slowly coming to consciousness and freeing himself from his glass prison.  It’s such a perfect metaphor for the life of someone constantly in the public eye.

What did you think?  Do you like this release?  Are you a fan of So Ji Sub?  What was your favorite thing about this song and video?
