The post Korean War film drama “Ode To My Father” is the latest South Korean theatrical import to do well in the North American movie market.

According to CJ Entertainment & Media (US branch) the movie has grossed more than $2 Million in tickets sales after just being in theaters for only 5 weeks.

The is about an ordinary father who does the extraordinary by sacrificing himself to support his family during the tempestuous time period of 1950 – 1953 following the Korean war.

Ode To My Father is the 4th highest grossing South Korean film in North America following, The 3 movies holding the top spots.

If you want to see the movie for yourself it is currently showing in 18 theaters in Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Toronto and Vancouver.

Domestically the movie had 10 million viewers in less than a month since its opening on December 17th but this weekend it became the second most watched movie in Korean movie history according to the Korean Film Council.

The movie was also selected to be shown at the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival that runs between February 5 and February 15.
