We watched your comeback stage on KBS ‘Music Bank’ last week. You sang ‘Uncle’ together with Jeon Hyunmoo, but shouldn’t you have performed with the composer of the song, Lee Juck?Lee Juck oppa is really busy and to have him appear personally on stage might have been embarrassing too. I was thinking about who would fit the uncle image, when I happened to recall seeing Jeon Hyunmoo a few times when filming for ‘Dream High’. When I asked him for help, he readily obliged.
You collaborated on the lyrics with Lee Juck, song how did you settle upon the concept for this song?
The song Lee Juck oppa and I composed initially was a rather gloomy one. Then we decided to try making a fun song that had ‘Uncle’ as the theme. In this way, I guess you could say it’s a song that’s sort of as fanservice.
A gloomy song, you say?
“Uneasy” was the title of the song. The melody was really good, but it was really dark in general, so we decided to do it next time when I’m older (laughs).
Your calm and frozen expressions in your album jacket photos had a lasting impression on me. Was that intended?
The people who took my photos for me all preferred my expressionless look.
Did you ask why? (laughs)
Because then I don’t look so cute? (laughs) There were lots of cute and laughing expressions of me on broadcasts. Actually, if you look closely at my face, there isn’t anything particularly cute about it. At most, just my nose? I don’t have cute round eyes either. Before I debuted, no one ever said I looked cute.
Do you intuitively imagine how you would sing a song when you listen to it for the first time?
Since I was 6, rather than practising singing, I think more often I was interpreting songs. If I were to sing this song my way, how would I sing it? I try to think about different versions, different arrangements. I had a lot of such practice, so I guess you could say I’m the type to have those imaginations.
If you are still a singer when you are in ur 20’s what kind of a singer do you think you will be?
I think I’ll be a singer that’ll backstab others? (laughs)
