SPECIAL 2NE1's Second Mini Album
Ever since their debut, not a single one of 2NE1's songs has not hit first place. They are now releasing their second mini album. Starting with Park Bom's solo song, Don't Cry, Lonely, I am the Best, and Hate You all placed first on several Korean music charts. Q Finally the 2nd mini album is out. Clap clap clap! Please tell us a bit about what kind of song the title song 'Ugly' is.
A Dara: If you simply look at the melody and the sound, it will seem like a refreshing summer song, however in reality, the lyrics are a very sad story. Everyone must have had some troubles because of their outer appearances, and this song unravels the truth behind those feelings. I think that it's a song that will be able to relate to many people.
Q Your first ever solo concert at the end of August was completely sold out, and the response received from fans was so great that you added another concert. What did you feel like when you found this out?
A Dara: It was on a day which I was really busy with schedules, and I heard that as soon as the sales started, the tickets ran out. I was shocked. To be honest, I did expect it a little bit (laughs) but it really did sell out the within moments! Thinking about the fact that many people are waiting for our concert, I think to myself, I want to show an even better performance, and so currently I'm working even harder for the preparations.
Q You filmed music videos for all the songs in the mini album, please tell us about an incident during one of your music videos recently.
A Minji: First of all, in the 'I am the Best' music video, we were able to experiment with a lot of things, so it was fun to shoot. It was originally planned to be a 2-day shoot, but we almost spent a week shooting it. It was tough but I'm happy that we came out looking cool in the final product.
Dara: Mari Kim designed our characters for 'Hate You' which was released on the 21st, and she even directed the music video. It was fun to see characters that reflected our own unique natures undergoing a lot of actoin scenes. Everyone was really interesting because this was the first time that I was ever drawn as an animation. I would like to take this opportunity to really thank Mari Kim for drawing our characters that really match us so well!
CL: Ugly is really a masterpiece that was the most expensive to produce out of all our songs so far. Bom-unni had worn eyelashes that were the longest out of all of her activities so far. (Bom: They were rea~lly long!) And we really worked hard to film it, seeing as it was the title song. It's coming out on the same day as the mini album, the 28th, and so we hope everyone will watch it.
Q The charisma that the members showed on the 'I am the Best' performances on broadcasts was really amazing. What do you think about before going on stage?
A CL: I keep thinking about the performance. Thoughts about how should I sing, what kind of expressions and dances should I do. This has become more than just a habit, but a part of a my life. Even for our first concert at the end of August, my mind is full of thoughts about our performances. The reason is that right now there is nothing more important than that.
Q You are the amazing 2NE1, however is there any special method that you use to boost your confdience?
A Dara: After doing your makeup prettily, if you dress in your freshest outfit, and check your appearance carefully in the mirror(!) (T/N: lyrics from IATB), you'll feel much better and you'll also feel more confident.
Q Which member is the biggest troublemaker in the apartment?
A CL: Bom-unni and Dara-unni pull the most pranks. (Laughs) Especially Bom unni, although her unique charm has been revealed many times, if you watch 2NE1TV, you'll find out about her charm. I don't even know if you'll ever be able to recover from it!
Q Bom's current amazing body has become a huge topic. Do you really only eat watermelon to maintain your figure?
A Bom: One-food diet is one of the wonderful YG trainer Hwangssabu's most hated and incorrect diets. I don't only eat watermelon. Watermelons make you feel full and are good for you body, so I eat some before a meal. I can't eat one food. Hwangssabu is always watching. I can't escape anywhere. (laugh)
Q There are many people who think of 2NE1 as icons. Is there a message you'd like to tell them?
A CL: There's always a message in our songs. We want to let everyone know that there are people who sing about the power of women. We're not saying to throw away one's femininity, but to know that we're not all delicate just because we're women. We believe people feel this message which is why they like 2NE1 and want to thank our fans who are always giving us love.
Q Tell us about your future plans.
A Dara: We plan on working hard to promote our 2nd mini album. You'll be able to see a lot of our performances on TV. Once we finish our concert in August, we will officially begin our Japanese activities in September.
